Democrats, who are the minority in both the Michigan House and Michigan Senate, say bills regulating the use of indoor tanning beds by minors should among the fraction that makes it into state law. The legislation is House Bills 4404 and 4405 introduced by Michigan state Rep. Jim Townsend from Royal Oak.
Royal Oak Rep. Jim Townsend wants to ban indoor tanning by youth under 18, and he has the support of the Michigan State Medical Society in legislation he has introduced.
The Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta says youth are 75 percent more likely to contract skin cancer from indoor tanning.
A number of states have regulated indoor tanning for minors but only a couple states have an outright ban.
What do you think? Should indoor tanning be banned for minors?
