GOP candidates rally at Oakland County airport Friday, Oct. 29

In the battle to turn out the vote for the Nov. 2 election, Republicans are ending the week before the election with a rally at Oakland County International Airport in Waterford Township.

The 5 p.m. rally Friday, Oct. 29, at the Oakland Air hangar, 6740 S. Service Drive, features Republicans at the top of the ticket, a candidate in one of the state’s most heated congressional races and a couple of out-of-state guests.
The One Chance Rally to Victory event is free, but people wishing to attend need tickets.
They can register at www.migop.org/index.php/get-involved/tickets, or by going to the state GOP website at www.migop.org and clicking on the One Chance Rally to Victory button.
The doors open to the public at 3 p.m.
Scheduled to appear at the rally are gubernatorial candidate Rick Snyder and his running mate Brian Calley, attorney general nominee Bill Schuette, and secretary of state nominee Ruth Johnson.
Also listed as attending are Michigan Supreme Court Justice Bob Young and Mary Beth Kelly, both candidates for the state’s high court, and Rocky Raczkowski, the GOP candidate in the 9th Congressional District.
Out-of-state guests scheduled to appear are Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
Republicans are hoping for a clean sweep for statewide offices and the supreme court. They’re also aiming to reclaim seats in Congress that were lost to Democrats two years ago.
In the race for governor, Snyder’s opponent is Democrat and Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, Schuette is running against Democrat David Leyton for attorney general, and Johnson faces Democrat Jocelyn Benson for secretary of state.
In the race for the state’s high court, Young and Kelly face Democrats Justice Alton Davis and Oakland Circuit Judge Denise Langford Morris.
In Oakland County’s hottest congressional race, Raczkowski is running against first-term U.S. Rep. Gary Peters, D-Bloomfield Township, in the 9th Congressional District.
Democrats, meanwhile, plan to hold phone-calling events around the county Saturday as part of comedian and satirist Jon Stewart’s Rally to Restore Sanity in Washington, D.C.
